Ch ch ch ch changes....

Did you read that title in Bowie's voice? I just bet you did.

It was tough to even think of a title for this post. I'm not a writer. I'm a singer. This doesn't come easy. I've decided the best way to 'blog' (gross) is a verbal diarrhea sort of deal....free flowing, free thinking...man....

So here's what's up. TCJ has gone through some changes recently. Like in the past year or so. Some personnel changes. First and foremost, The Takeaway as it were, is that I love, respect and totally dig everyone that has been in this crazy ass country band. It's been almost 10 years. I've never been in a band that long. Got a husband out of the deal too! We must be doing something right. We've been 'blessed' (also gross) with all the A-list players, musicians and friends. Playing music in this town, country music, has been the very best decision in my life. It was hard won. I sacrificed. I hurt people. But sometimes you have to. Know why? Because the THING we do, this music thing, the songs we write and play, are MORE IMPORTANT than any individual members. The thing we make TOGETHER is what matters. The show simply must go on. And it will.

Jeff "El Jefe" Houck has parted ways peacefully with Three Chord Justice. Considering our history, and his being a founding member, I'm sure this is surprising. The thing is, I respect him too much to share any details beyond this statement.  Jeff is a fantastically talented, kick ass twang nugget slinger. I have nothing but respect for him and for his playing. Sometimes, people part ways in bands. It happens. That is all.

I've also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Cheryl Preston for almost 6 years. Cheryl is another fantastically talented, killer high note slinging, hair I'm so jealous of, ever so wise Goddess. We have parted ways musically as well. We are close friends. I consider her a big sister. We hold no bad mojo.

Our new guitar player is Alex Watts. You know him from The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, The Working Cowboy Band, Lightning Train ...basically any country band in SD worth a paying gig. His playing is smooth like butter, and I'm so pleased to have him join the family. He's also an Alexander Technique teacher, which, if you don't know about it...you should check it out. It's hard to describe, but I will say it helped me with my back pain, and taught me how to think and move more thoughtfully onstage. sandiegoalexandertechnique.com

Other TCJ family members include Tom Wolverton, Brennan 'Buttah' Orndorff, David Held and Andrew Lombard.

We will always be family, whether onstage together or not. Life is long.

Dresses! My enduring love affair.

Hi everyone! If you've ever met me, you know the passion I have for vintage dresses. This one is my newest love!! I find them in many different ways; estate sales, online, vintage stores, etc etc...

So hey, if you have any 50's vintage dresses in your closet that haven't seen the light of day in 50 years, hit me up! I'm always in the market. My fave materials are chiffon, raw silk and satin. Not so much lace (it tends to fall apart) or tulle (omg itchy!!!). Go to the CONTACT page and send me an email. I promise to give you props when I wear it at the show!

The design of this dress just takes my breath away. And the little buttons!!!

Three Chord Justice on the RADIO!!

Hey friends check it out! Three Chord Justice has been lucky enough to catch the ear of a radio station in Quebec! We are in regular rotation on this super cool station, belleriveradio.com. Don't worry if you don't speak French (I don't either!). Just click on the French flag at the top, then hit play! A big THANK YOU to Lise McGouran and staff for bringing us into the family, and out on the air!

Welcome to my new website!

I'm just as proud as a peacock right now. I never thought I could get something like this done. It seemed so massive, so complex, so....narcissistic!! And I guess it is, just a little bit anyway. I mean, a whole website dedicated to ME? Created by ME? Well...heck yeah! I created this website to answer one burning question, a very important question, one I should know the answer to, but I never do.

The burning question is (drum roll please baby)..."So where do you play around town?"

Ack!! You know how often I actually know that?? Like never!! But now, my peeps (that's YOU btw), can just roll on over to the left side of this screen, click on SHOWS and bam!! there's the answer.

It's my sincere wish that you dig this site, and find it helpful when I can't be. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Click on the CONTACT page and send me an email wontcha? Thanks for dropping by!!

Here's an endorsement from music SuperFan, writer and blogger, Terry Provance. He and his wife Nancy saw a Three Chord Justice show at Wynola Pizza on May 28, when Alex Watts was sitting in for Jeff on guitar. Much twangin' love comin' at ya! Thanks Terry! Pretty cool pix too. ;-)

Due to injuries mentioned earlier, and a heavy work schedule, the Beatles Fair was the last performance I attended until Memorial Day weekend. We were taking a little ride on Saturday and noticed the time. We figured we could be at Wynola Pizza, near Julian, by the time Three Chord Justice would begin performing. We arrived shortly after they began. In this more acoustic configuration they were a four piece, with Alex Watts featured on lead guitar, and the three mainstays of Mark Markowitz on drums, Dave Preston on bass, and Liz Grace on rhythm guitar and vocals. The band was great, cranking out some enjoyable country standards, a Dylan tune, and many songs penned by Dave and by Liz. Alex was quite a picker, with some slick lead work that I especially appreciated. Mark got a variety of sounds out of a single snare, throwing in an assortment of rhythmic tricks while keeping everything on course. Dave kept a consistent bottom end, making sure the band was tightly together. Liz’s beautiful voice danced over all the instruments weaving stories with emotion and poise. This is an exceptional band. Every time I’ve seen them I have considered my time well spent and came away very gratified.
